The Lacrosse WA Board, with the assistance of the Department of Sport and Recreation, are excited to introduce the new initiative - GOAL - Get Onboard And Lead - Women Leaders in Sport Initiative.
Released in April this year, the GOAL initiative aims to positively change organisational attitudes and behaviours, while empowering women and ensuring fair and reasonable opportunities in the sporting sector. Research suggests that organisations that respect and value diversity are better able to attract and retain high performers and improve operational performance and decision making.
WA compares poorly to other States in relation to female representation in leadership roles. Whilst the Lacrosse WA Board has been a leader in this area with a previous 50% ratio of men and women on the LWA Board, this year the ratio was less than 30%. With our Annual General Meeting scheduled for the 28 November, we encourage our female members to give some thought to taking up one of our vacant positions.
The GOAL Program will build on existing systems that already exist in sport to make it easier for all women to advance as leaders on and off the field.
