After announcing the 86 man squad last week, the Australian Lacrosse Association has announced that the East Fremantle Lacrosse Club’s Gavin Leavy has been named the 2020 Australian U19 Men’s Head Coach.

After forging a long playing career for the East Fremantle Lacrosse Club and for Lacrosse WA as a midfielder and defender, Leavy turned to coaching and has long been involved at club, state and national level, serving an extensive apprenticeship.

At club level, Leavy has coached a number of sides including a previous stint as Head Coach at the Subiaco Lacrosse Club and currently as Head Coach at the East Fremantle, which included a Men's State League premiership in 2017.

At a state level, Leavy has coached an abundance of Western Australian sides including the Senior side, the U18’s Men's side and more recently the Flames at the ALA U15 Boys & Girls Lacrosse National Tournament, tasting success at every level, which has included a number of appearance as a player coach.

At national level, Leavy was an assistant coach to John Denic for the 2010 Australian Sharks and in more recent times was an assistant coach for the 2012 and 2016 Crocodiles and was Head Coach of the 2017 Aussie Roos who competed at the 2017 ASPAC’s.

A fireman and electrician by trade, Leavy brings a hardnosed style of lacrosse to all his teams which sees his sides as being tough to play against. It is no doubt hoped that Gavin’s approach will instil a degree of discipline and grit to our 2020 Crocodiles as they look to grow from their 2016 efforts.

We would like to congratulate Gavin on this appointment and wish him well as the 2020 Crocodiles begin their journey to Limerick, Ireland.
